Speaking in Tongues for Today?

My short answer is “No”

Why?

  1. Tongues was used a miracle to share the gospel to non-believers who spoke in a different language by people who did not know their language.
  2. This then shows that speaking in tongues is not a “Heavenly Language”.
  3. 1 Cor. 14: 5 “…Unless someone interprets, so that the church may by build up.” (There needs to be someone to interpret the tongues, no one can interprets a “Heavenly Language”. Also vs. 6)
  4. Tongues was used in the early church before the written Word of God was canonized(completed), so sharing the gospel was needed to be spoken to as many different languages as possible before then. Now that the Bible is completed, was Christians need to do now is preach the gospel with that written word to all the world.

Why is it not a “Heavenly Language”?

1 Cor. 15:27–28

It talks about those who spoke in tongues, they must take turns (something that isn’t practiced in churches today) and there must be someone to interpret, and if there isn't then they must remain silent.
